A challenge ends, and another begins.

I’ve really enjoyed participating in Blog Everyday in May, (BEDM!) I think I managed to post 27 out of 31 days, (although I did post twice one of the days to make up.) I’m not sure how many days I posted on my linkblog. However, I got to 37
posts, which is better than I’ve done in any month over the past year! This one was pretty hard for me, as I’ve been dealing with a lack of sleep. It isn’t my first blogging challenge though, and it definitely won’t be my last! I did a blog365 in 2011, and I have it on my 101 things in 1001 days list, (which I was supposed to start tomorrow, but is still in the process of being created!) to do it again next year.
May was a pretty busy month for me. I had to deal with the fallout from an incident that created a lot of drama here, (seriously the floor drama just wouldn’t go away!) that was left over from the end of March. Not only that, but when I finally could talk some sense into my mother, so that she would finally come to an agreeable position that me moving wasn’t going to cause her to have panic attacks and need antianxiety meds, I took the initial steps of preparing to move, (which, when you deal with federal and state agencies, includes doctors filling out forms incorrectly, so a whole lot of waiting is still going on!)
I think it was around the middle to the end of last month, (and the beginning of this one,) when my sleeping problems started to get worse. Of course, when I went to urgent care, well… she said taper off the antidepressants until I see my doctor on the 10th. It’s really hard to write much of anything coherently when you’ve stayed up for 3 nights straight, on the other hand, I’m glad to know I can still stay up for 3 nights straight!
I’ve also been working on Linkday, which is my 24 hour linkblogging challenge taking place on July 25th! This was initially something I thought of last year just for myself, to keep the summer tradition of staying up for 24 hours alive, and to challenge myself, to actually see if I could post 100 links in 24 hours. I’ve actually decided to open the challenge up to others who want to participate, (if anyone actually thinks they can do it!) Lol, I’m not actually sure I can get there yet, but if how many times I tweeted during tonight’s patriot act debates are any indication, I think I have a pretty good chance of making it!
Tomorrow I’ll start my challenges next month! I’m going to be participating in Audiomo, which is a month-long challenge in which you publish audio every day. I’m actually going to be doing this by using Meerkat and Katch, and uploading files to SndUP if they’ll take long files like that. If they won’t take the files, (because they might be too big,) I’ll upload them here, (which I plan on doing anyway for archival purposes.)I’m also going to be doing 30 in 30 30 days of excersise in 30 minutes. I have a treadmill here, and I haven’t used it much this past year. I had an extremely bad spell of headaches in January, and I took a fall down the stairs of the building shortly after that. I’m pretty sure I saw 30 in 30 on someone’s 101 in 1001 somewhere. I’m not sure where, but if you’re looking for 101 in 1001 inspiration, check out DayZeroProject I can’t exactly use the site to creat lists, that part is completely inaccessible. I’m going to be using Listography, to store my list, (and I’ll make a page and entries here as well.

Sunset is my word of the week!

OK there were a lot of words to pick from this week! Planning was definitely one of them, as I’m still working on Linkday! However, I decided on sunset! I picked sunset because tomorrow the senate will reconvene to decide whether 3 patriot act provisions will expire, whether they wil reauthorize them cleanly, or whether they’ll pass USAF, which actually really does not much of anything. Of course, I’m praying for the Senate to do what they do so well, and be lazy! Just simply do nothing, section 215, section 206, and the lone woolf provision, (which hasn’t actually ever been used before,) will just go away! If they decide not to be lazy, I’m hoping either Rand Paul, or Ron Wyden will filibuster, and stay on the floor for well… hopefully 24 hours, and then sunset will have happened anyway!

My trip to urgent care.

I went to urgent care today, because I haven’t slept for the past 2-3 nights. The person who saw me wasn’t a doctor, but a PA. She said that if I wanted to taper off the antidepressants, that was up to me, but that’s probably what’s causing the insomnia. I decided to start weaning myself off the antidepressants. Not only do they cause insomnia, but there’s a possibility that they could be moderately contraindicated with Prednisone. She told me to take Benedril and Melatonin for sleep.
I got a car mount for my phone today. Melissa and her boyfriend thought this would work instead of a Tripod. It actually does work well, except for the fact that it won’t sit on my desk for some reason. It does however sit on a glass plate, and it suctions to it very well! It supports the weight of my phone, while being held in portrait mode, so that I can live stream. I can pretty much take the phone anywhere, if I wanted, I could sit and/or lay on the couch with the phone on the coffee table. I think I need to return the other tripod that I ordered, it didn’t hold my phone at all!

I got my form back from the doctor today…

He didn’t fill it out correctly. He said I needed a wheelchair accessible apartment, instead of a one bedroom. I even told him what to write. We ended up going to the housing authority, and taking the form in. I talked to my representative, and she said she would ask the director if she would give me an accomidation based on the fact that I have a known disability. If she says no though, we’ll have to take the form back to the doctor’s office.
I’m starting to think I don’t like the theme I chose for this blog! Searching for themes is extremely hard, because you really never know what you’re going to get, and most of the themes are not free now days. I don’t like the fact that it hides the widgets until you click the link, and I have to access a widget on the page to get to the admin panel, unless I want to login every time. I made my first submittion to Reddit tonight, I’m trying to find a very simple news theme for the Linkday site, not a magazine theme, (because I want full text to be displayed,) but kind of like what the Blogathon blog used to have before they started using WP. I kind of want something like the old PHP script called Sideblog, that let you put a blog on your site, but it also let you have other things there. I’m not sure if WP has a sideblog theme or not.

This is me taking a break to do a quick post.

I’m on my 3rd WP FAQ plugin so far, and the last 2 haven’t worked all that well! I’m thinking of giving up the plugin, and simply going with the make a page, make a list format. I really do need to get this post done though, as it’s almost midnight here. If anyone has any recommendations for a good WP FAQ plugin, please leave it in the comments!

Excuse me while I do some site tweaking…

If I work on one, I absolutely must work on them all! Trying different blog platforms, because I’m not a huge fan of WP, and I really want something that won’t flip out and not take my password, and not give me a new one. I need something stable and simple, preferably hosted. I suppose I wouldn’t mind doing the hosting, it’s just that when you have to fail at FTP 4 times because FileZilla doesn’t think you put the password in correctly but you’re copying and pasting it from a text file… yeah don’t ask… I just happen to keep my passwords in a very insecure place, because remembering is hard, and using Lastpass is even harder, especially when it doesn’t sync between multiple browsers. I’m trying Ghost, I wish someone would make a platform for linkblogs, I mean I know Tumblr exists, but most people just reblog pictures, and I think they convoluted it when they introduced all the other post formats. You can use Blogger or to create a plane old text blog, and Blogger even does fairly good at photoblogs. There really isn’t anything out there for just linkblogs though, unless someone builds their own, and after they do that, they aren’t likely to give it to anyone. Not only that, but there aren’t any linkblogging themes out there for WP, I use one of the older default themes on, because it supports all the formats, and tags, and everything I need it to support!

I missed church today.

We were only going to have one service today at church. No 9:00 service, classes or Sunday school. I decided that since I hadn’t slept for like 5 nights, that I would skip the service today. I was going to live stream it, but they didn’t have the live stream running today, (since it was memorial day weekend.)
I think I slept off and on for a couple hours last night. I definitely slept more throughout the day than I did last night. Sometimes I do a lot better sleeping on the couch than I do sleeping in my bed for some reason, that’s been the case lately.

Sleep is my word of the week.

Simply because I haven’t been getting very much of it lately. For the last 2 nights, I really didn’t sleep at all. This is the period of time, in the couple months before I stay up to do my 24 hour events, in which my body plays not-so-nice tricks on me! The problem is, if you do this a lot when you’re blind like I am, people might start to think you have Non 24 hour sleep wake disorder Which does actually exist, and is actually a real thing. However, if you read that Wikipedia article, it talks about free running sleep cycles in which the cycles shift to later and later in the day. I don’t free run my cycles, I usually go to bed around 12, and get up anywhere between 7-9, (unless I have an extremely bad headache, then I just lay there for a while not wanting to get up!) I think it was about a month or so ago, Melissa looked up the side effects of the antidepressants I’m taking, they can cause insomnia, but they can also make you tired. I think I’m going to blame the antidepressants on this one, It’s definitely happened since I started taking them!

Things I should probably do over the next couple weeks.

This is a Thursday 13 list, except for the fact that it has 14 things on it, (hah!)
things I should probably do over the next couple weeks.

  1. Have my form filled out for the housing authority.
  2. Give the property management agency notice to vacate.
  3. Start my apartment hunt. I didn’t want to start until I gave notice to vacate. Just in case there were vacancies at the time, then someone took the apartment I wanted, and/or there weren’t any vacancies when I went to apply.
  4. Get up and running.
  5. Get my AC fixed.
  6. Register a Twitter account for linkday, (the obvious username is taken.)
  7. Go to WalMart.
  8. Work on my 101 things in 1001 days list.
  9. Do an AMA stream on Meerkat, (well… this isn’t exactly something I need to do, but it’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a while.)
  10. Test my Tripod when it gets here. I’m hoping it will work with my phone, and that I’ll be able to set it up easily!
  11. Work on the FAQ page for Linkday.
  12. Update my “Places to find me” page, and call it something different.
  13. Write an about me page for the Linkday site.
  14. Start Audiomo, (Audio month.)

Patriot act soliloquies and missing scheduled streams.

Today on the Senate floor, Rand Paul gave a ten and a half hour soliloquy on why we shouldn’t reauthorize the patriot act, or pass USAF for that matter. This was technically not a filibuster, because the senate was scheduled to debate trade legislation today, (not the patriot act.) He started at 10:20 pacific time, and ended shortly before 9 here.
Melissa and I streamed the making of pizza this afternoon. Everything except the crust was already cooked, (she cooked the saucage and onions beforehand,) so all I had to do is spread everything on, then she put it in the oven for about 10 minutes to allow the crust to bake, and the cheese to melt. After we were done streaming, I scheduled a stream for 7:00 tonight. I wanted to demonstrate installing WordPress on I enjoy watching people build webapps while they’re streaming, so I thought I would do a demonstration of how I install wordpress. Lol, this won’t take long at all, as I have to use my host’s installer to do it because I have problems with the file manager, and I don’t particularly want to extract all the WP files to my desktop and then upload them via FTP, (I want to install it in the root directory.) BlueHost’s file extractor has never worked for me!
